New MX Innovation Centre poised to supercharge business growth in Cheltenham

Celebrating its grand opening yesterday evening, the Minster Exchange, or ‘MX’ as it’s locally known, aspires to create a more connected experience for surrounding businesses and residents, where technology, creativity and community collides.

With 20,000 square feet dedicated to the fast-paced cyber tech, digital, and creative sectors together with The Growth Hub Cheltenham, the MX is set to reinvigorate the local economy and rejuvenate an historical part of town. As well as focusing on business growth and development, the MX is home to an impressive event space and onsite café.

Its innovative modular construction sits in juxtaposition to Cheltenham Minster, the town’s oldest and last surviving medieval building. This area of conservation has deep-rooted connections with trade and commerce, evident in the iron fixings within the grounds, once used by local tradesmen. Indeed, this timeless concept of exchanging goods and ideas sitting at the heart of a community is said to be the inspiration behind the venues name.

The project is a partnership between Cheltenham Borough Council and Hub 8 by Plexal, funded by Central Government and The Growth Hub Gloucestershire initially via GFirst LEP, now Gloucestershire County Council.

David Owen, Director of Economy and Environment at Gloucestershire County Council, said: “I’m delighted the Minster Exchange has now opened. It will help to support business development in a range of sectors including cyber tech and digital, as well as help to regenerate the whole area. It shows the benefit of strong partnership working, which will support economic growth in the county and attract further investment and skills.”
